LASU's HEALTH FIASCOWritten By Charis Kings.

A world class institution like the Lagos state university would be expected to have a clinic or an health centre befitting it's grandiose name but sadly reverse is the case as there are some disturbing practices and a few disappointing inadequacies. The Lagos state university's health centre shares almost the same methods as most public hospital and most times their detestable features are equal even a few of which I'd state below. The same way many public hospitals have a reputation for delaying patients the exact same can be said about LASU's clinic. Although public hospitals have an almost legitimate excuse to delay the hundreds of patients trooping in by their numbers but what excuse does LASU's health centre have? On personal visit to the health centre at specific timing I observed that on average at the least 10 people visit the records division of the health centre and 20 at most. Very small number indeed, either students are delayed for checking or rather va...

LASUSU '19 Election: An Observer's story. By Charis Kings

Image
The student union election which was conducted and concluded today appeared to be generate different views from different categories of both participant and observers. The voting was purely electronic, students were completely impressed. Some even dared to say LASU is one step ahead of Nigeria as a whole, simply because Nigeria hasn't ventured into complete E-voting. Perhaps they were right?. The E-voting platform was indeed a development and a big step forward into a new age of technological advancement for the school electoral processes. Although the voting process was safe, easy and transparent the electoral processes at the 30th LASUSU elections was not without it's inadequacies and reportable activities. At exactly 12:05pm I arrived at the faculty of education, the faculty's main entrance seemed rather quiet with student rather normal, like every other day. Many students could even be sighted hanging around the walkway though scantily but anyone simply observing that p...

POLITICS OF DEMAND by OGUNFEMI OLUSAYO ALABI

Image
Why are we getting ourselves confused about politics? Why politics of yourself? Why politics of choice? Why politics of puppetry? Why not politics of sacrifice? Why not politics of demand?. There is political apathy in this situation, every ordinary man do not want to interlock with things of politics, but there is politics everywhere, politics in the church, school, mosque, organisations and every setting of gathering as someone must leas and people must follow. There is always fault when a leader does not know his stand, does not understand the term "Leadership and sacrifice", can not define his agenda, cannot give boundaries to some open lapses, leaders are meant to sacrifice, are meant to meet their followers demand, are meant to fulfill every promise made. Lagos State University (L.A.S.U) needs changes in the aspect of their politics, student are tired of unfulfilled promises, they are tired of seeing their demands unmet, they are tires of the school political setting, t...

The Plain Apathy Amongst Students Towards LASUSU DECIDES 2019.Written by Charis Kings.

Image
Lagos State University, student's Union he elections of the next officials of the student union body of the Lagos state university seems to be attracting conflicting feelings from the students as the elections draw closer by the hour. The results of my personal survey about students participating in the electoral process amongst quite a number of completely random students returned some rather funny inference. Amongst the senior students, some serious level of apathy exist. It was quite surprising to see that majorly, mostly only 200 level students are active suppoters and participants in the schools electoral process. Although most if not all of the aspirants are 300 level, they can easily siphon the support of their fellow level mates. My survey today showed that about half the questioned students actually have no plans of voting while about quarter only show support but have no plan of voting. Only about quarter actually plan on turning up for the election tomorrow. A handful fi...

IN THE NAME OF OUR FATHER: AS LASUSU DECIDES - Afeez Rabiu

Image
It is needless to start expressing what the atmosphere is like currently on campus, one can easily figure what a preelection season feels like, but unlike the conventional system, where political parties go about campaigning, the university politics allows for independent candidacy hence, all aspirants do their publicity themselves. The case is not different in LASU currently as the university students Union government is at the verge of transition, and election would come up in few days, after the independent electoral committee was constituted by the legislative arm of the exiting administration weeks ago. The independent electoral committee chairman Waheed Oluwaseun Nurudeen, in an interview with ACJ correspondent stated it clearly that the electoral body would not succumb to any form of influence from external bodies in response to the questions about the last election which ended inconclusive. The big question now is, what is the fate of the aspirants? You may want to say that the...
