By Phenomenal A. In a major shift from tradition, the Communication Students' Association (COSA) of Lagos State University has adopted an online voting system for the first time in its history. The move, led by the 20th COSA Independent Electoral Committee (IEC), aims to address electoral malpractices and promote transparency, efficiency, and innovation. In an exclusive interview with ACJ-LASU, IEC Chairman Olorunshola Boluwatife Samuel, popularly known as The General, said the decision to go digital was driven by the growing number of students in the faculty and the need to upgrade the election process. He said, “We are adopting online voting for many reasons. The Faculty of Communication and Media Studies is not like before. We have grown, and counting paper ballots becomes stressful as numbers grow. Additionally, we also wanted to embrace innovation. ACJLASU   Lagos State University (LASU) has announced the timetable and polling centers for the 35th Students' Union General Elections. The electios timetable was  approved by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, on the 6th of August, 2024 The LASUSU Students' Executive Council Election will hold on Thursday, August 8th, at various polling centers across the university, including the Faculty of Arts' Language Laboratory and Theatre Arts Auditorium, Faculty of Education's Computer Laboratory, Conference Room,Faculty of Engineering/School of Agriculture's PDS Classroom, Down Hill, Faculty of Law's Law Library, Tetfund Building, and other designated centers. Daniel Nworie   Lagos State University (LASU) management has directed staff and students to resume academic and administrative activities on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. The decision comes after a review of the prevailing situation in the state, according to a statement released by the university's Coordinator for Information and Public Relations, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile. The university had initially suspended activities on July 31 and August 1, 2024, due to the protests. However, with the latest directive, members of the university community are expected to return to campus on Tuesday. While urging students and staff to be vigilant, the management emphasized that their well-being is of utmost importance. The resumption of academic activities at LASU may signal a return to normalcy, but the ongoing protests across the nation remain a concern. Students and staff are advised to remain cautious and follow university guidelines.

By ACJLASU  The Lagos State University Management in the late hours of July 31, 2024 has postponed the election scheduled to hold today till further notice due to the nationwide protest scheduled to begin today, the 1st of August, 2024. This postponement is coming after a meeting which was held yesterday , the 31st of July 2024. Students, Staff and other members of the University community have also been advised to stay safe and off campus as the protest begins today.  This decision was made by the management to protect the university community in the course of this protest. Further information about resumption and the LASUSU elections will be communicated in due time.

This was disclosed in the early hours of Tuesday, 30th of July, 2024 by the 35th LASUSU Independent Electoral Comittee.  This development is coming barely a few hours after all twenty-six Ojo Campus candidates presented their manifestos on Monday, July 29 2024, at the student arcade, after their screening days earlier. The event which was hosted by the LASUSU IEC, the integritas team, sought to introduce the candidates to the student populace and have the students listen to their vision and mission for the next academic session.
