Most students enter the university system without fully understanding that it is significantly different from what they were used to, and that it requires a higher level of independence, discipline, and focus. For some, the excitement of newfound freedom and the idea of being a “university big boy or girl” can become a distraction from academic responsibilities. The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, announced this development during a press conference held on Monday at the institution's Senate Building Conference Hall. Professor Olatunji-Bello outlined the conference structure, which will unfold in three phases: a pre-conference session from August 28-30, the main conference from September 1-4, and a post-conference program from September 5-7, 2026. By Alasepeloluwa Precious Jenti For the second time in the history of the Lagos State University Debate Society’s (LSUDS) public speaking competition, Word War, the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies has emerged victorious, making them the first faculty to win Word War twice.  Their historic triumph came during the Word War 8 grand finale tagged , "Siege", held on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, at the Hallowed Chambers, Student Arcade, Lagos State University. The grand finale featured top contestants from the Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of Law, and students from Epe Campus, with each faculty represented by two debaters.  The event also included an in-house debate and oratory competition for LSUDS members, where Moyomade Adegbite won the intra-LSUDS debate, and Chief Orator Gift claimed victory in the orators’ contest. The move, led by the 20th COSA Independent Electoral Committee (IEC), aims to address electoral malpractices and promote transparency, efficiency, and innovation. In an exclusive interview with ACJ-LASU, IEC Chairman Olorunshola Boluwatife Samuel, popularly known as The General, said the decision to go digital was driven by the growing number of students in the faculty and the need to upgrade the election process. He said, “We are adopting online voting for many reasons. The Faculty of Communication and Media Studies is not like before. We have grown, and counting paper ballots becomes stressful as numbers grow. Additionally, we also wanted to embrace innovation. ACJLASU   Lagos State University (LASU) has announced the timetable and polling centers for the 35th Students' Union General Elections. The electios timetable was  approved by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, on the 6th of August, 2024 The LASUSU Students' Executive Council Election will hold on Thursday, August 8th, at various polling centers across the university, including the Faculty of Arts' Language Laboratory and Theatre Arts Auditorium, Faculty of Education's Computer Laboratory, Conference Room,Faculty of Engineering/School of Agriculture's PDS Classroom, Down Hill, Faculty of Law's Law Library, Tetfund Building, and other designated centers. Daniel Nworie   Lagos State University (LASU) management has directed staff and students to resume academic and administrative activities on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. The decision comes after a review of the prevailing situation in the state, according to a statement released by the university's Coordinator for Information and Public Relations, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile. The university had initially suspended activities on July 31 and August 1, 2024, due to the protests. However, with the latest directive, members of the university community are expected to return to campus on Tuesday. While urging students and staff to be vigilant, the management emphasized that their well-being is of utmost importance. The resumption of academic activities at LASU may signal a return to normalcy, but the ongoing protests across the nation remain a concern. Students and staff are advised to remain cautious and follow university guidelines.

By ACJLASU  The Lagos State University Management in the late hours of July 31, 2024 has postponed the election scheduled to hold today till further notice due to the nationwide protest scheduled to begin today, the 1st of August, 2024. This postponement is coming after a meeting which was held yesterday , the 31st of July 2024. Students, Staff and other members of the University community have also been advised to stay safe and off campus as the protest begins today.  This decision was made by the management to protect the university community in the course of this protest. Further information about resumption and the LASUSU elections will be communicated in due time.
