LASU to Host Global Scholars at International Conference on Community Psychology 2026

Lagos State University (LASU) will host the 11th International Conference of Community Psychology (ICCP 2026), expecting over 700 international delegates from Africa, Europe, and the United States, alongside national participants, marking one of the largest international academic gatherings in Lagos for 2026.

The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, announced this development during a press conference held on Monday at the institution's Senate Building Conference Hall.
Professor Olatunji-Bello outlined the conference structure, which will unfold in three phases: a pre-conference session from August 28-30, the main conference from September 1-4, and a post-conference program from September 5-7, 2026.

Explaining the conference's focus, the Vice-Chancellor noted that community psychology examines the relationship between individuals and their social, economic, and physical environments.

She said: "The primary goal is to promote positive change and well-being at community and societal levels. It is an action-oriented discipline that applies research to address social injustice, mental health challenges, and systemic inequalities by working collaboratively with communities to develop sustainable solutions."
The conference theme, "Gathering in The Motherland: Celebrating Ways of the Waters and Reconnection to the Source," reflects Africa's heritage and emphasizes the integration of indigenous knowledge with modern psychology practices.

Professor Olatunji-Bello assured participants of a secure and culturally enriching experience. 

She stated: "We guarantee our global and national guests adequate safety, security, transportation, and entertainment. Lagos is a premier tourism destination, and participants will experience the vibrant culture of Lagos State alongside high-level scholarly discourse."

It was also gathered that the conference has secured support and endorsement from leading professional bodies, including the Pan-African Psychology Union, Nigerian Psychological Association, Zimbabwe Psychological Association, Ghana Psychological Association, Psychological Society of South Africa, and Tanzanian Psychological Association.

Professor Temitayo Deborah Adewuyi, Alternate Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, appealed for additional support from the private and public sectors. 

"We call on governments at all levels, multinational companies, philanthropists, and organizations to partner with Lagos State and LASU in hosting this global event. ICCP 2026 offers significant opportunities for branding, networking, and commercial engagement," she said.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the conference welcomes students from within and outside the university, persons with disabilities, and individuals of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations.

Faculty of Communication Breaks Record at LASU Debate Society Word War 8

By Alasepeloluwa Precious Jenti For the second time in the history of the Lagos State University Debate Society’s (LSUDS) public speaking competition, Word War, the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies has emerged victorious, making them the first faculty to win Word War twice.  Their historic triumph came during the Word War 8 grand finale tagged , "Siege", held on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, at the Hallowed Chambers, Student Arcade, Lagos State University.
