Grandpa's Story

Image
By Joseph Gbadamosi Rickety Rickety Rickety doh, That's my Grandpa's chair, A cough, a shout and then a cry, Once upon a time… Once upon a time, he said In a village far away, There lived animals of fate who all obeyed, a great and mighty King A party was thrown to celebrate, the victory of the then King of fate, "The Iron King!" they cried aloud And long live the king of Clouds Aha! Aha! Aha! Aha! that's my fellow friends, But Grandpa! Who's this king? they cried, Of fates, iron and lots of friends Don't jump the gun! my folks, It's a story of passwords, puzzles and bolts, But with the rules of speech we can, Unearth the truths there are to find And as the party went on and on, As drinks were shared amongst them all, There stood a being behind the crowd, Hovering and watching, wanting to strike A check, a squint and then a breath, He ensured he was ready to strike, But as he closed his fingers around his spear, A fairy poured the dust of past Like a r...

That took Guts

Image
Olabanji. It all started from the moment you were ejaculated. There were many other cells But you made it out first You ran so fast cause you knew your existence depended on it That took guts Growing up wasn't easy, but you did anyways. Living each day and learning new things Shedding old skins and growing new wings That took guts Sometimes the trials l of life tried to break you But you refused to back down It tried to steal your smile and make you frown But you never let your guards down You looked it in the the eye, and called it a clown. That took guts Remember when you were naive and clueless? Yes, you were didn't take life with so much seriousness. You dared to dream even while your life was quite reckless That took guts Many time you've locked yourself away from the world Embracing your pains like a shoe would hold its lace. Shedding tears shouldn't be a thing of disgrace. It's okay to cry because It takes a lot of guts When I first met you all I saw were fl...

TIME ALONE WILL TELL

Abiodun Dolapo Oluwaseun Time alone will tell, of souls fed to distress When a hole in my dress, equals a hole in my chest When an apple I didn't eat, becomes the key to my death Clutched, Clamped, and Chained Freedom became a mere words on the pages of the papers It holds no water When our rights can be likened to a rice The fire is off, it can no longer rise The Black is your colour But should it also be your culture Extortion is the language you understand I blame you not, for your bosses are managers of the banks Where the only acceptable currency is CORRUPTION Trigger Happy child they call you All hail you, plus damn fool, damn you Time alone will tell Well that time is here To the ones that amplifies our request through their knees and protests Keep SOROSOKE(ing), our God in Heaven listens Your prayers provides Strength when we are weary.
