31st LASUSU Champions League Delay: Sports Director Clears Airs, Gives New Date

By Dorcas Alao In  a bid to ease the  tension surrounding the delay of the 31st Lagos State University Student's Union, LASUSU Championns League competition, the Union's Sports Director, Adeyemo Azeez Olamilekan popularly known as Hayzed 10 has cleared the air on the matter, with a new date for continuation of the event. It should be recalled that on March 2, 2022,   an altercation occurred between the Faculty of Engineering and Arts football team at the Sports Complex which triggered the delay of the event till further notice. However, in a related development, a detailed explanation of the causes of the delay has been made by  Hayzed 10 in an interview with ACJ-LASU's correspondent. According to him, the delay of the champions league event is majorly due to necessary procedures which have to be followed before the football match can continue. Faculty Of Law Intensifies Training Ahead of Champions League Match Against School of Communication

By Damilare Adeleye In preparation for the LASUSU Champions League match against Mass Communication team, the Faculty of Law Football team has intensified their training in order to ensure their opponent is defeated on Monday when  the both teams will encounter each other on the football pitch.  ACJ-LASU news correspondent gathered that, on Thursday,  there were rigorous trainings in LASU Sport Centre by the Law students' team, and the exercise took many hours in the evening.  Speaking on the preparedness of the team, the coach, Mr Ajadi Omosore, a 400-level student,   disclosed that he was confident as the team, he claimed, is 90 percent ready to beat their counterpart. In his words: "We are 90 per cent prepared. We train, at least, three times a week. I also organise tactical trainings where we sit down, practice and then explain tactics. We pull up videos and show them their mistakes and try to correct them and show the necessary things to do...

By Samiat Ajayi The Communication Students Association COSA-LASU sports Director, Comrade Odusanya Suaib Oluwasegun popularly known as Segetoma, has made his  plans for Communication Students to be involved in  games and Sport activities known.   Some the games and sport activities include Scrabble, Monopoly, Racing, Cricket, Table Tennis, Ludo, Football among others.   COSA-LASUites have since expressed their interests in these games and sports Although the university does not make provisions for  most of the sports options, Segetoma believes by equipping Communication Students with those sport opportunities it wil give them an edge against other students and allow them to be able to represent the Faculty and the university in competitions. Goal keeper heroics give Political Education edge over English Education

Though Political Science Education earn the bragging right, this was due to the heroic feat of their goal keeper, Hontonnu Moses. The game which was part of the plans of the English Education final year week, tagged Jersey day prompted an invitation from one of the LASSED team, for a friendly match. COSA Tramples Over Education On Penalties to Win LASUSU Champions League.

By Ayomide Sotubo The football team of the Communication Students Association (COSA) emerged victorious over Education Students Association of Nigeria (ESAN) through a penalty shootout to win the LASUSU champions league for the first time. Both sides failed to cancel each other in normal time as both defence lines were resolute over 90 minutes. Both sides came close to scoring but the goalkeepers chose today to be the shining lights of the teams. It was Saka Abdul-Azeez Abiola popularly called Saka whose illumination reigned supreme during the Penalty shootout. Despite missing the first spot kick, he inspired the team to victory, saving two other penalties as the spot kicks ended 3-2. The match was played between the OOU Warriors and ABUAD stars.Both teams prior to the game had lost their previous match and this match was a determinant to who joins the next stage of the competition between LAUTECH and FUTA . The match started at exactly 4pm, it was a tough one has both team tried to outsmart each other in order to win the golden 3 points. OOU Warriors dominated most of the first half with little attempts from the ABUAD Stars.The number 13 player,of the ABUAD Stars was really amazing as he was fast enough to penetrate the OOU Warriors defence but it was unsuccessful.The dilly-dallying continued till the end of the first half. The two teams responsible for the early exit of LASU Blazers from the HIFL football competition Zone C. As UNILAG Marines and LAUTECH clashed, LAUTECH opened the games, but in a swift turn of events, few minutes into the game, UNILAG Marines brought the heat upon the LAUTECH boys. George, number 4, the defensive midfielder also created beautiful chances but all was to no avail as the LAUTECH players did well to hold down the fort to an extent as the formidable goalkeeper of the team Adesina Saka did well to defend his post. The match was between the Lagos State University And University of Lagos, started with the Unilag team in full spirit,energy and vibe. Several attempts were made to score goals by the Unilag team in the first half and the game was also controlled by Unilag in the first half. Suddenly a goal that was not so shocking but disheartening to LASU students was scored by Unilag at exactly 4:53pm. The excitement earlier portrayed by the students of the Lagos State University died down after the first goal by Unilag. The first goal from Unilag was not surprising, as in the first half of the match the LASU players were not really active. Could this be due to fear, anxiety or could it be because the LASU players are shorter than their Unilag counterparts. Below are the results of the fixture ARTS A (1) VS (0) LAW B The game commenced by 12:00pm and ended in defeated for the energetic Faculty of Law as the scoreline finished 1-0. The goal was score by Akerele kayode on the 55th minute. FSS B (0) VS (0) MASSCOM A Faculty of Social Sciences played out a goalless draw with the School of Communication as the stalemate was decided with penalties. The Faculty of Social Sciences won by 4 goals to 3. Muritala Zainab The Lagos State University Students Union (LASUSU) Champions league is set to kick start on the 6th of April 2021 at the sport center of the LASU, Ọjọ Campus. The tournaments which is organized by the Lagos State University's management to foster excitement among students and to also serve as an opportunity to help determine the best faculty within the school. The annual event was last held in 2019 and couldn't hold last year due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions which caused a halt in school activities. LASUSU champions league is a tournament that features all faculties at Lagos State University (LASU)main campus and satellite campuses. A sum of 24 thousand Naira must be paid by all faculties to register their team members. The defending champions Engineering will be roaring to go once again but 2019 isn't 2021 as every faculty has got their cards hidden and await the right moments to show it…. Brace yourselves as it promises to be the best tournament ever....

Football: LASUSU Champions League to take Centre Stage Next Semester.

By Ayomide Sotubo. The Lagos State University Student's union,LASUSU Champions League will be back in the campus sports centre in 2021. It was last held in 2019 as the tournament was put on hold last year due to the suspension of school activities caused by the outbreak of the novel virus, Covid-19. This development was announced in a press release circulated by the Public Relations Officer of the Students' Union, Yettydlaw. LASUSU Champions League is a knockout football tournament played by all faculties in the Lagos State University. This year's edition will be played on the renovated pitch of the sports centre which would be open for general use from rain semester. Faculties would be required to provide two teams which will represent them in the match. The University's satelite campuses; College of medicine, School of Agriculture and defending champions, School of Engineering shall also take part in the tournament.

Halimah Adisa The Sport Director, Lagos State University Students' Union (LASUSU), Comrade Babajide Ajii has disclosed that the Courts under construction in the Sports Centre has been completed and is ready for use. The construction of the facilities have been in the pipeline since last year. Comrade Ajii revealed this while speaking with ACJ's sports correspondent, Ayomide Sotubo in an exclusive interview. He shared his thoughts on how the school management has been supportive regarding sports in recent times. He said, “The management has really been supportive,. When I emerged as the sport director, the sport center wasn't like what we have now. Our court wasn't that bad but it wasn't as good as what it is now." He also stated that the collective agitation of the 30th LASUSU executives has fast tracked the revamp of the sports centre.
