Oluwananumi shares his experience in this short and precise interview......
Pls Full name and a little description - University, course etc
My name is Dawodu Oluwananumi Joshua. A 400Level Medical Student at Lagos State University College of Medicine, Ikeja. I'm the Co-founder of HealthDriveNG a Non- governmental organization that focuses on reducing the prevalence of hepatitis and other liver diseases drastically in Nigeria through social media advocacy, webinars ,seminars and onsite advocacy techniques.
Talk about the work you are doing during this Global Health Crisis (Covid-19) period
My work description during this Global Health crisis Covid-19 is centered around the 08000CORONA helpline. I work with EpidAlert who are partnering with Lagos State ministry of health to help tackle Corona viral outbreak in Lagos through design thinking and appropriate technology.
We make use of a 24/7 call centre system designed to inform and collate data of Lagos residents showing suspected symptoms of Corona virus while referring them to the medical emergency centre for isolation, sample collection and testing. 08000CORONA
The project was then transferred to Consol Limited where I was recommended Based on my experience at Lagos State Corona virus call centre with EpidAlert to further act as Team Lead for the escalation and case management of patients presenting with Red Flag symptoms of Corona Virus Disease -19 to the Medical emergency team for isolation, sample teating, evacuation and decontamination.
I also supervised a team of call agents who received over 500 calls weekly from residents of Lagos state and other parts of Nigeria as regards the global pandemic attack CORONA VIRUS DISEASE -19.
What motivated you to work at the front lines while most students are at home with their parents and guardian?
My motivation is as a result of my belief
which is that if you are not doing anything you would not have a story to tell. So I decided to do something.
Volunteering helps you make a difference and can have a real and valuable positive affect on people, communities and society in general. It gives you the opportunity to create change as a young person. Sustainable changes brings fulfillment and joy
Whatever you are doing to change the narratives. You might not get all the accolades but you are definitely touching someone somewhere with your singular act of kindness and compassion.
I have continued to sacrifice 12 hours of my time unrelentingly this break to working alongside the case management team at the call centre 08000CORONA.
What Challenges have you encountered in discharging your duties, how have you been able to tackle them and if No, how can they be tackled?
The lockdown has posed a challenge to the workflow but it has been resolved as there is provisions for transportation for all workers in the Call Centre. It has been difficult getting food around easily due to the lockdown but I am fine regardless. The enthusiasm is quite engrossing.
Mention some challenges that where you are stationed is encountering and what do you suggest can be done to overcome it?
We had few challenges as regards prank calls we receive from residents in Lagos and that can only be solved if such numbers are tracked via their sim registration and sanctioned appropriately because for every prank calls we receive such person prevents the people with serious cases from reaching us as we tend to receive a lot of calls daily.
what do you suggest can help generally in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic?
Generally, If we adhere to the stay at home law while the government ensures mass testing of citizens and residents of their respective states in addendum to residents complying with the WHO guidelines in preventing the novel Corona Virus disease 19 we are set to achieve success.
