The Lagos State University managemc ent has been reported to have added three thousand naira to the penultimate student's fee, as a pre- requisite for a compulsory course ENT 302 (Practical Entrepreneur).
Mr Ademola Adekoya, Coordinator of the centre for information, press and public relations( CIPPR) in LASU, he mentioned that He is not aware of the additional tuition fee by the Management but he confirmed the information from the E.N.T coordinator.
An E.N.T lecturer, Miss Mariam shonoiki who teaches Event planning and Food processing updated her student on a general Whatsapp group with the name "official Event planning group", chat as quoted "If you haven’t paid for your practical please go and pay to the school, If you have paid ICT will sort your names out and clear the 3k payment away". She also confirmed that from Dr. Saka who is the E.N.T Coordinator, according to her.
Miss Mariam sounded a note of warning to her Students who did not pay to H.O.C not to show up for the Practicals and she said that She is uncertain if the schools will give funds for the Exhibition that is two weeks away. This unveils that Students who pays to the management have no benefits as she informs that she has no materials for those who payed to the School Management.
In a conversation with Mr Ismaili Bariu, the data management personnel in LASU ICT, he confirmed that the payment is legal because some E.N.T lecturers requires the sum of 7,000 from their Students for Practicals and fails to regulate the money to the school Management.
Dr. Saka the E.N.T director confirmed that the school management will remit the money paid by the students to E.N.T lecturers. He emphasized that most of the E.N T lecturers are not full staff, they were hired because they are professionals in the skills they called them for.
Speaking to one of the Student's who preferred to be an anonymous because of fear of victimatization, she said "If at all they want us to pay any money they should have added it to our school fee before we paid and not after we have paid, our parents will think we are lying".
The Educational Right campaign Coordinator LASU chapter, Com. Duro Orike expresses his disapproval towards the additional fee. He said" Of course my views to condemn the approach of using Entrepreneurship as a basis to stylishly increase students fees it's condemning and lasuite should not keep quiet on this attack on their school fees…. The Fagbohun administration has shown that all his administration is all about is to just look for one means or the other to raise students fees".
The public relations officer of LASUSU, Olowu Tobiloba according to him, he said" Presently we are working on it .We don't have a conclusion yet If there is .Speaking with the management on it Presently and we are waiting for a positive reply".
