Students expectations on LASU new academic calendar. Fareedah Taofeeq

The Lagos state University academic calendar is out and it has derive a lot of discussions and comments among students. According to some of the students they feel comfortable and relax with the academic calendar but they appeal to the management that the calender should be actualised.

Some weeks after the academic calendar was out, students were urging the Lagos State University (LASU) Management to abide by this calendar so as not to cause an extension in the program of students. Four years course should not be allowed to extend over four years. The past academic calendar which was for 2017/2018 academic session was riddled with strikes. Which made the school to be closed for months after prolong negotiations between the government and the Academic staff union of universities (ASUU). This had affected the academic calendar which was expected to end in 2019 but instead it was extend to 2020.

One of the students, Sanni Omolaja 300 level School of Communication said "the 2019/2020 academic session is okay by me as the university management
has put in a lot of efforts to come up with the academic calendar in order to be fair to members of the institution and I will like to appeal to the university management to actualise the calendar the way it has been set, this way the school will be able to maintain it standard has four years course would not extend to five years."

Some of the students are lamenting on the short duration of the holiday as some students have to finish their examination on the 23rd of January 2020 and still have to resume back on the 10th of February 2020 which according to the students is too short has it is during this period they have to work to gather money to last them the following

‘’The management should put in a lot of effort in order for the academic calendar to become a reality. If this calendar is actualise the way it is set it will boost the the students trust in the school management” according to a student.

It is clear from the students' comments so far that most students are comfortable with the 2019/2020 academic calendar. But the question they are all asking is ‘’ Will the management be able to make the calendar a reality ? I think the managements are in the best position to answer this with their action to sustain students trust.
