The project FPforCampuses is a Women Deliver Funded Project led by Miss Mary Adeoye, a 2018 Woman Deliver young leader. The project aimed at building the capacity of students of Lagos State University on the use of media, dialogue and storytelling to develop advocacy messages to push for the proper translation of National Reproductive Health Policy into action in the university continued the second day of its training at the lecture hall of the Lagos State University, School of Communication. The event is in partnership with the Association of Campus Journalist (ACJ-LASU) and Communication Students' Association (COSA).
The programme initially selected 30 participants across all levels and departments in the school. The second day of the training started with a recap of what participants learnt the previous day. The first event of the day which lasted for 30 minutes started with participants shared into groups to determine the barriers students face when it comes to access of sexual and reproductive health information and services in the university's health facility.
The second session was Storytelling and Advocacy which was done by Hamed Kayode Alabi, an advocate for education for sustainable development and a media and storytelling expert. Kayode stressed on the fact that, Storytelling connects with the Head, Heart and Hand (3H's). He further stated, 'when it comes to storytelling, Vulnerability is a strength, as you have to connect with your readers, to tell a story.' The session ended with participants shared into groups to come up with a storytelling idea on advocacy for access to Sexual and Reproductive Health information and services.
The third session of the day on Unmet needs for Contraception: Consequences on Young People's Health Wellbeing and Productivity, was taken by Mary Adeoye. She stressed on the need that, young people should be enlightened on contraception and also there should be access to Contraceptive. Areas such as the Myths and Misconception on Contraception, Contraception and Family Planning amongst others were deliberated on. She concluded that, Contraception is a life saver.
The final session of the day was done by Jumoke Adebayo, a midwife and sexual and reproductive health advocate. She shared participants into three groups and three objectives were drawn out as factors that hinder young people from getting access and they are; Poor Information, Finance and Hostility from Health Personnel.
Incentives and training materials were shared at the end of the day two of the event
Participants are expected on the last day of the three days training, as they would meet with policy makers from the school to present what they have learnt so far.
