The College of medicine is an entirely different world. The rules and etiquette of the medical school is different from what the new set of medical students have always been used to. From the dress codes, to the rules and regulations of each lecturers and the school in general.
Most students resent the cooperate lifestyle, but since the school has made it almost mandatory they are forced to adjust and frankly speaking they are adjusting well. Some students feel that some of the rules of the Medical College are unnecessary and lecturers over strict.
Majority of the students understand that the rules and regulations are laid down for their own good. The lecturers have to be strict in enforcing the rules because without leadership bodies, the college will be disorganised and unruly, Besides this is expected as the school is basically in a clinic. Some of the rules of the Medical College is mostly about the professional dress codes, punctuality, respect, personal cleanliness to mention a few.
Generally, rules and regulations of the College of medicine is put in place to make sure the students are exposed to the professional life as early as possible. Professionalism is one of the main codes of the medical school.
Professionalism is the major backbone of the Medical College. The Professional dress codes were put in place so as to introduce the students to the professional life. Students are taught that they should dress how they want to be addressed and therefore it is necessary that medical students always appear professional. It can get so stressful for students who are used to the causal dress code at the school's main campus to always appear in professional outfits and it can be very annoying to students for lecturers to intentionally or unintentionally embarrass students because of their outfits.
It is also right to note that professional outfits can be expensive, although the rule is a very important one it is not necessarily favoured by students especially new students who might find the transition from casual clothings to formal wears a drastic one. But on the plus side, students have to give credit to the fact that they always look smart and beautifully dressed. Punctuality as we all know is the soul of a business, the Medical College is very strict on students being punctual.
There are no excues whatsoever that can sound reasonable for lateness and absence from class. Student are not allowed to write exams without meeting the requirements of seventy-five percent attendance in lectures. Attendance is of utmost importance and generally, students see this rule as a very justified one. It is safe to say that lecturers have every right to stop a student from writing exams without meeting the requirements.
They also have the right to prevent tardy students from entering the lecture halls. Ofcourse, this is with the exceptions of students who have verified and important reasons for missing lectures. Punctuality is a general favoured role as student should have no reason for missing lectures.
Although some students usually can't meet up with this rule due to the fact that all 200level students stay off campus and most still come from their distant homes. Lecturers at times are mostly impatient to understand the reasons why a student is late but they seem to encourage the students in a way to come earlier next time.
Respecting colleagues and lecturers is also a very important rule. Respect is a general rule and etiquette not only in the medical school. Respect is a very important rule of life. As students, respecting colleagues and lecturers is a key tool in the medical school, our various choosen careers and life in general. This is a favoured rule as respect is reciprocal. Lecturers in the college of medicine are very nice and respectful; so as students, showing respect isn't a problem.
Quite a few lecturers demand this respect by asking students to arise from their sits whenever they're entering the classrooms and a resounding greeting must be made unless the class is considered rude.
A particular lecturer demands her male students to always be on shirt and tie. The nurses on campus aren't allowed to dress fancy with accessories, nail paintings nor wear any make up at all. Personal cleanliness and etiquettes is a prior rule in the medical college .
This is because we are in a medical environment and health of both the students and lecturers are of utmost importance.
This is a very justified rule and is highly favoured by students as well as the lecturers. These are just a few of the rules of the college of medicine and these rules are generally favoured by the students as well as the lecturers. Most of the college lecturers are friendly, easygoing and approachable.
They are strict in enforcing the law but this is justified and very important for the stability of the college. Personally, I feel that rules of the college are not excessive as they are of utmost importance and I'm sure majority of students will agree with me.
