The Lagos State University management led by Professor Adigun Fagbohun, SAN, NPOM, has reeled out matriculation numbers to new students.
In a new turn of event, giving out matriculation numbers is usually preceded by a matriculation ceremony, but took a new turn for this academic session which will no doubt be linked to the ravaging Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic which has grounded academic activities.
In an interview with the institution's, PRO, Mr Ademola Adekoya, He reacted on how the university plans to cover up for the sudden break and corrected students perspective of the sudden development in the institution.
"The University Management had about two weeks ago directed all Faculties to commence online teaching via telegram, WhatsApp, Zoom and other platforms. I'm aware that some Faculties like Social Sciences, Education etc, had commence online teaching. Also the Lagos State Government this week directed all state owned tertiary institution in Lagos State to commence online teaching by Monday 13 April, 2020. Machinery has been out in motion regarding the directive for LASU to start the online (virtual teaching)."
He also talked about the sudden change of the university's routine of giving matriculation number after the matriculation ceremony,
"Since the matriculation ceremony can not hold now due to the lock down and the online Lectures must commence on Monday, the University had no option than to release the matriculation numbers so that the new students can register their courses and also be able to fully participate in the online platform which can only accomodate them with their matriculation numbers"
He further stated that the matriculation ceremony might hold,
"The matriculation ceremony is just a yearly ritual to officially confirm the studentship of students admitted in a particular academic session. The ceremony can still hold after the lock down" He said.
It should also be noted that the university has reeled out matriculation numbers for student admitted for stream one and stream two respectively and there has been no change in the matriculation numbers of both streams, just continuation.
The Lagos State University uses this medium to urge their world class students to actively participate in the online classes organized by their respective department and ensure to obey the stay home and stay safe initiative.
