Ex-Presidential Candidate Lauds Nigerian Youths On #EndSARS

16 October, 2020

Ex-Presidential Candidate, Funmilayo-Adesanya-Davies, a lecturer lauds Nigerian Youths on #EndSARS peace protests in Lagos and all over the 36 states of the Country. She has lent support to the voice of the Youths in Nigeria, speaking to a group of students, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, yesterday, on her 58th birthday, 15th October, 2020; says "Nigerian Youths have really tried up to-date, commending their effort, drive and patience, with the Buhari APC government."

I am proud of Nigerian Youths. Proud of ya! Yes!! Ya All!!! May I state that, "The administration of the peaceful protest is quite commendable, she noted. The peaceful walking, singing and dancing, chanting, praying, cleaning and eating - The nonviolent resistance (NVR), or non-violent action, is the practice of achieving goals such as social change through symbolic protests, civil disobedience, economic or political non-cooperation, satyagraha, or other methods, while being nonviolent, and it's well conceived. Please keep it up, only in that spirit and mode of conduct.

A day ago, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E. A. Adeboye has also said, he supports the peaceful #EndSARS protests, "as the protesters speak up against police brutality." Pastor Adeboye made this known in a statement on Wednesday evening after protests continued around the country. "He urged young Nigerians to comport themselves orderly across the country and express themselves within the confines of the law."

“The Redeemed Christian Church of God identifies with Nigerians presently protesting against brutality and the abuse of power by the very institution established to protect them", the Church said. The Church said, "it understands and appreciates the concerns of Nigerian youths and urges for an immediate end to police brutality across the country." It added, "that it still notes the responsibility of the Police in maintaining law and order and urges for the Police to align its strategies with the needs of the people. And “The Church welcomes the disbandment of the SARS, and notes the establishment of a new outfit called the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) but advises that it should not be a case of old wine in a new bottle.”

The EndSARS Protest flutterwave opens fund to support protesters, as staff donates N2 million; but #EndSARS has killed above ten (10) persons again, by Nigerian Police since start of protests – reports Amnesty International. Also, TheNigeriaLawyer recalls, "that some of the #EndSARS protesters were attacked by thugs in Lagos and Abuja on Wednesday while about seven vehicles were vandalized at the Berger roundabout, Wuse, Abuja."

According to Prof. Adesanya-Davies, the demands of the Nigerian Youths in #EndSARS are noteworthy, l have tried to observe and take note of the youths' list as listed on the social media, among others, they include:

In closing, Princess Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies positively remarks that, "the Military threatens to deal with thugs disrupting Peaceful Protests yesterday, October 15, 2020. This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday by Major General John Enenche, Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, noting that, "the military and other security agencies will not condone such disruptions."

In the statement titled, “Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies assured Nigerians of their safety and stability of the nation, warn against violent protests in the country”. He stated, "that the military is committed to ensuring that people are not subjected to unwarranted attacks." And “The Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies have observed with dismay some violence-related protests across the country, particularly the increasing number of attacks on peaceful protesters by thugs and miscreants."

Furthermore, he says: “This unfolding event against peace-loving Nigerians will not be condoned. Hence, thugs and miscreants are hereby warned to desist from engaging in violent activities against peaceful Nigerians henceforth, or face appropriate measures.” Meanwhile, the citizens were assured of their safety and urged to go about their lawful activities stressing that, “the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies are on ground for their safety.”

He added, “In clear terms, any attempt to undermine the democracy of our beloved nation under any cover will not be allowed,” the DHQ warned. Again, while addressing Defence correspondents during the weekly briefing on ongoing security operations on Thursday, he had condemned the attempts by some hoodlums to provoke the protesters."

The protest has been international in its scope, by Nigerian Youths all over diaspora - UK in London, Johannesburg, in South Africa, etc. This is quite history!
