It's the tail of the year. A year that already comes with different climes and narrations, but all is not done yet as the Association of Campus Journalist (ACJ)Lasu chapter holds her second annual convention which marks two years after its rebirth.
In attendance, and also a bid to create a bond between its members and alumni were, Barrister Nurudeen Temilola (Optimist), the first Editor-in-chief of the association and also the founding father of the Association chaired the event. Com. Mahmud Bola, Former Cosa president. Mr Olasunkanmi Arowolo, a Lecturer in the department of journalism (LASU), Miss Adelagun Anne Oluwakemi, also a one time beneficiary of the MAMMAN marshal Scholarship, for women in journalism and Mr Adeyemi Moses who is also a past leader of the association were in attendance.
The Editor-in-Chief, Mr Kareem Azeez Itunu (Solace) gave the opening remarks at 2:30 pm, before the arrival of all invited guests. While, the keynote speech was delivered by Barr, Nurudeen. His message was centered on the theme of the event which is “Journalism and Activism, where do we draw the line?”.
He noted that there are differences between journalism and Activism. While in his words, journalism is not all about writing but also sourcing for the truth, While Activism is to promote, direct in social political, environment with the desire to make changes in the society.”
He enlightened the crowd more on how to be good Journalists and what is expected of them as a campus journalist. He made it known that as a journalist we must be active, and must be relentless in delivering on our expected duties.
Lagos State University the youngest lecturer, Mr Olasunkanmi Arowolo also gave his speech, citing the effort of (Optimist) and his effort in making sure students tuition fees remain #25, 000 until last week when newer events had occurred.
The event also witnessed the award presentation to past leaders of the association in recognition of their impact to the growth of the family.
The sudden announcement of one of the Association member in person of Ileyemi Mariam, winning the prestigious best photo-journalist of the year category, in Abuja, this ultimately switched the mood of the event to a joyful one. There were a photo session with the awardees and all was well and calm till the end.
The association of campus Journalists LASU, has been a growing body of young aspiring minds from different faculties of the prestigious second best university in Nigeria.
Members also gave their opinion about the event, while the majority still believe there is room to grow, as time goes on.
