Belz Lammy the Host for the Campus Headies Awards declares that the next edition of the campus headies award will be more focused on major varsities and polytechnic in an interview with ACJ correspondent.
Ademilayo: Who is Belzlammy?
Belz Lammy; Belz Lammy is a nickname coined from my real name Bello Oluwasegun Odunlami Waimo I’m a 300 Level Student of Lagos State University, Botany Department. I am the Principal Officer of Belz Media Inc.
A: You are quite known on the campus, how did you become known in LASU?
BL: Belz Lammy got into the limelight of publicity and projections due to my consistent and due publications of informations to the student populace. I also tried as much as possible to get up with couple of events (Beach Party, Tour Club party and Pool parties) alongside my news publication and update for the student populace. I started my publication with the brand name Belz Media Inc right from being an aspirant and consistency has kept me this far.
A: You are part of the organizers for the Campus Headies, What is the Campus Headies all about?
BL: Award Categories are held to bestow and confer honor on deserving personalities who have over-time distinguished themselves from others in areas of service, dedication and productivity.
Campus Headies Award is an initiative aimed at celebrating students across campuses that have been doing enviable and unarguably well in areas of innovation, academics, socials, governance and humanitarian services.
The Award is first of its kind as far as the Students community in Lagos State is concerned and it promises to be an unleashing event to greatness.
A: Is this the first Campus Headies Awards?
BL: Yes it is the first edition
A: What was your criteria for the nominations?
BL: The first Criteria for nomination was being a bonafied student of Lagos State University because our maiden edition is majorly for Lagos State University alone.
The nominations were done by the Faculty Presidents hence we believe they can easily identify respective potential students from their faculties.
Furthermore we contacted another distinguished individual who is not an executive (A Popular Person) in each faculty so as to check and balance the nominations being received by the faculty presidents.
A: During my interview with some of the nominees, some do not believe in the process of voting saying "this is Nigeria and we are Nigerians". What do you have to say to that?
BL: Apparently that’s what the brand is aimed at correcting. Prior to other awards on campus where you pay to get award or voting results are not used. We’ve successfully brought on board intellectual team where we monitor all the voting procedures and kept the public abreast of all activities such as voting schedule, vote statistics and necessary informations to feed the public. In lieu to this this award is strictly by votes and that’s why we’ve made the voting free and fair (excluding paid votes).
A: What hurdles have been faced while preparing for the Campus Headies?
BL: A whole lot., If not for Covid-19 this event should have been done early April 2020 but due to COVID-19 we had to suspend the activities of the event., Also our in ability to get enough funds contributed greatly to this and the outbreak of the Virus also made us loose key sponsors
A: What are your expectations from this maiden edition?
BL: We expect greatness and an avenue to project more potential persons on campus. Moreso we expect to build networking amidst students and also for students see this as a platform to project themselves and ignite unity.
A: What are your plans for the continuity of this programme?
BL: All hands are on deck and we’ve decided to cover lasu as a niche for our maiden edition. Next edition will be major varsities and polytechnics in Lagos to enable networking and the vision of this award brand.
We’re using this maiden edition as a sampling field so we can grow better for next editions that will be involving other campuses and also ensure this event is an annual event that’d be hitting campuses!
A: How has the school authorities reacted to this considering COVID 19?
BL: They are a bit strict and we’d be following the Covid-19 guidelines. The event will be in two phases (virtual and physical) Limited tickets to events and others join virtually. And we will definitely ensure that we follow the guidelines.
The Campus Headies awards will hold tommorow at Main Auditorium, Lagos State University Ojo by 12pm. And it's sure going to be an interesting programme .
