Women Like That Always Turn Out To Be The Worst .

We all speak about not letting stereotypes get to us, it's very easy to come all out and take this stand but how often do we practice it.

The class of women that have decided to wear the hijab which is defined by Wikipedia as "a religious veil worn by Muslim women in the presence of any male outside of their immediate family, which usually covers the hair, head and chest", do so for numerous reasons but with one common cause.
These women are victims of a popular stereotype because of decisions and mistakes some have made, society goes ahead to generalize and conclude they are the worst kind of people, those hiding behind the veil.

Society puts women on hijab in a box, they expect and don't expect certain things from them, and express their disappointment when they fail to meet up with these expectations. After all a veiled woman is an holy woman.They expect perfection and detest mistakes, they construct a box with or without your consent and put you in the box still without your consent. People make wrong decisions and mistakes, women on hijab inclusive, perfection is not a prerequisite to wearing hijab.

A woman remains a woman with the same heart and flow of blood as you, she might choose to stay covered but don't miss the point! she's still human, trying to show obedience to the Qur'an and ALLAH, she's prone to mistakes and not close to perfection just like you. You might feel she should act more like this or that but how possible is being flawless?

Third wave feminism holds that women should get to choose which practices are best for them without having to contend with anybody else's expectations. People have used the hijab to carry bombs, sometimes khimar to steal. I remember this, every time I go to the school's library and I would require special inspection while leaving because I'm wearing hijab and it's even worse for those on khimar .

Conclusively, people choose to wear hijab for varying reasons some to show obedience to the Qur'an, some because of family, friends or their community and others wear it to shield themselves from today's intimidating fashion industry.

Coming to the Lagos State University as an hijabii, I had a lot of fears asides influence that might lead to removing the hijab, I had to think about these types of stereotype. So please the next time you see a girl on hijab make a mistake, do not give a harsh response, place your judgements aside, and give a word of advise.
