Leshi Adebayo Oluwapelumi

Following the events of the recent power outage in the school premises for over a month, the Association of Campus Journalist, LASU Chapter (ACJ-LASU), gathered from reliable sources, the new format for electricity supply. This information will clear the air on every rumour, fake news, confusion and any form of information going around the school and media as far as The Lagos State University power supply is concerned. As a matter of fact, currently, the school is not just running on generator as most students and staffs of the school think, but also, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) supplies electricity for period of time daily. Now, here is a brief and detailed information on how the LASU power is shared:

EKEDC Power Sharing

  1. The Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building runs on the EKEDC power supply from 8:00am to 2:30; 3:30pm to 4:30 pm(Working days only)
  2. Faculties, Centre (For Student Affairs etc) and Units - 9:00am to 3:00pm (Working days only)
  3. Staff Quarters, Ojo- 6:00pm to 8:00am (working days only); During the weekend- the morning from 7:00am to 10:00am and Afternoon from 7:00pm to 10:00pm
  4. The Health Centre is powered 24hrs (fully) every week.
  5. The Works & Physical Planning Unit/Staff Club ; University Auditorium/ Makanjuola Lecture Theatre’ ; Directorates/ Centre/Units and others with dedicated generators and shop vendors all run on the EKEDC Power Supply from 9:00am to 3:00pm ( Working days only).

Power Supply via the various School Generators is to be used only when it is necessary. All the locations in this categories, in total share 81.5 hours in a day and 435.5 hours in a week. Only the LASU Health Centre has uninterrupted power supply.
Conclusively, this power supply sharing among these locations is interim as the School Management is doing all it can to return to its normal schedule of Power Supply.
