The Communication Students Association COSA-LASU sports Director, Comrade Odusanya Suaib Oluwasegun popularly known as Segetoma, has made his plans for Communication Students to be involved in games and Sport activities known.
Some the games and sport activities include Scrabble, Monopoly, Racing, Cricket, Table Tennis, Ludo, Football among others.
COSA-LASUites have since expressed their interests in these games and sports
Although the university does not make provisions for most of the sports options, Segetoma believes by equipping Communication Students with those sport opportunities it wil give them an edge against other students and allow them to be able to represent the Faculty and the university in competitions.
Also despite the short notice of the new sport activities, the Communication Students has welcomed the provision with open arms, so far there has been 18 participants for Scrabble, 45 for football (male), 15 for football (female), 20 for the race, 15 for Monopoly, 25 table tennis, and 10 for cricket.
In other to get rid of the apathy for sports in students, Segetoma says, "I have plans in the coming freshers week to award students with commendable efforts in the participation of the aforementioned games with medals and I hope that will further encourage the participantion of other students who for one or two reasons have refused to participate"
Segetoma also uses this medium to call on Sponsors to fund most of these games and competition because COSA alone cannot bare the expenses that will be incurred in order to make all these a success.
He also added that a time would be scheduled for sports on Wednesdays which would work with the academic time table, it would provide an avenue for people to come together, and practice which would also serve as training for those with little or no knowledge of the games.
When asked about the recruitment of coaches to train and develop the players, Segetoma told our reporters that no provisions has been made for coaching personnel and his fingers remains crossed on that.
All eyes will be on COSA-LASU as they are the reigning champions of the LASUSU Champions league, the biggest sporting event of the school.
