Olamide Bakare popularly known as Lammie Art is a 400level English student at Lagos State University, She is a writer and a contemporary artist who establishes the truth using the various mediums in art.
She came from a cultured environment where it is a norm to learn a vocational skill before progressing to any tertiary institution. She developed an interest in art when it hasn't been so much dominated by ladies as she wasn't interested in any common female skill acquisition.
Lammie Art started art as a career in 2016 having been trained by a professional artist and also underwent the process of self-development to broaden her knowledge in the field.
According to her, she had always wanted to be called Lammyberry but she insisted that the "Berry" in the name doesn't make sense. She started using only "LAMMIE" and couldn't control people adding "Art" to the name. She however became "Lammie art".
Lammie Art describes her experience as an artist as a wonderful one. She said "over six years of practicing art now, it has been a wonderful experience. It has given me more recognition with little constraint. However, my art is made to establish a social change in thinking. Finally, I got a contemporary style to describe contemporary issues in society as well."
Speaking of challenges, she said people take her gender for granted when it comes to doing commissioned works ordered by the male gender.
She had featured in 4 exhibitions and also attended webinars and artists' talks too. The exhibitions are Badagry Festival Art Day exhibition, Vivid International Virtual Exhibitor by Vivid Gallery, Nigeria, Badagry Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture Girl Child's day not excluding Manchester Vr Exhibition and many more to come.
She has been able to balance her academic and career by making sure one doesn't affect the other. She draws in the midnight sometimes and reads in daylight or reads in the midnight, then draws in daylight, depending on the concept.
She advises the upcoming artists to be consistent and to use their style to influence society as well. She said "having a skill is the best investment you can give yourself."
