The Lagos State University Student Union LASUSU led by Badmus Oladipupo Uthman has spearheaded the lighting of Lasu’s Ojo campus.
It should be recalled that during an alleged robbery incident that ensued around the school environment which claimed the life of Alowonle Nurudeen, Omomewa, an alumnus of the Lagos State University, and left a member of Lasu’s staff injured, one of the contending matter that the fatal incident was tied to was the lack of proper lighting within and around the school vicinity.
The students’ Union in alliance with the school authority led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has began a lighting process of the school premises.
Speaking concerning the new development, Badmus Oladipupo popularly known as Badecious noted that the development was fast-tracked after a rigorous meeting with the then Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Oke Oyedamola, and Mr Governor, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“During the Omomeewa issue, we wrote to the governor to provide street light in LASU and other dark spots outside the campus. And we received the officials to do quotation in the following week or so. After that, we had a security meeting which was chaired by the Acting Vice-Chancellor and he unleashed the plans for us on getting all these streets light done on campus and other dark spots outside the campus as we’ve requested from Mr Governor.”
In a recent development, the LASUSU presidency through the office of the Lagos State University Students’ Union, Public Relations Officer, Comr. Olusola Kolawole confirmed the approval of the power supply for the night reading.
In a statement, made available to ACJ, he noted that the provision of power supply would last till the end of the Harmattan Semester Examination.
“This was approved after a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello which was held today, Friday, 22nd of October, 2021 at the Senate Building.”
