LASU 2ND SEMESTER: Why You Have To Be Unserious

The Lagos State University rain semester otherwise known as 2nd Semester has officially kicked off on 17th January, 2022. Inadvertently, some other things also have commenced on that same day. 

By default, the morale of being a student would prompt you to pick up rumbles from where you stopped last semester and stride for another academic experience, irrespective of the good or the ugly experiences that came along with the last ordeal. 

Take it or leave it, some activities are already lined up to lure you towards having a semester of activities which stands against your natural motivation to improve your results. 

Major activities that are designed to take you on a rollercoaster are six. Yeah, I said major. The Department week,The Faculty week, LASUSU week, Final year week, parties inside and outside school and public holidays. These six rollercoaster activities are explained in detail below.

First, the Department Week. This week is usually dedicated to departmental events and festivities, which would include but is not limited to beauty pageantry, and talent shows. They are usually as alluring as a charming lady  and you would surely find a lot of your peers loitering around the venue for this event. This event is a week-long event, and this means you would be outside the classroom but inside the school premises for one week. Most times, this department week comes up after the LASUSU week and that of your Faculty. 

Second, the Faculty Week. It is pretty much the same thing as that of the department, as it comprises the same lineup of events. The faculty week is only a bigger notch. There is usually the beauty pageantry and Talent show too. Sometimes, there is a mini trade Fair. Influential faculties bring elite sponsors such as  Lush Hair, Dano Milk, Influencers, Actors amongst others to bring glamour to the week-long fest. All the glam doesn't just attract you and I, they distract us from the things that matter. During the last Faculty of Arts week which went through from the 17th to the 21st of May 2021, the executives of the Faculty of Arts Students Association brought Mr. Macaroni, an online Instagram Comedian to Lasu. The Association also brought in a real estate company that awarded a plot of land to a student. Enticing right?  Yeah, it is enticing. That's why you would be unserious this semester.  

Third, the LASUSU Week. The Lagos State University Students’ Union Week would host a series of events for a week. These events are usually on a big scale. This is because there are billed to arrest the attention of the whole student populace. Usually, you would always have the creme de la creme outside the four walls of the society invited to draw the attention of the teeming student populace. In the past, we have had SeyiVibes, a sensational music artiste, we have also had other popular personalities stopped by in LASU in the guise of LASUSU-Week. The venue for this event is usually filled to the capacity as a lot people wouldn’t want to miss out on these intriguing shows. Be sincerely, why would you want to miss this. Why? As much as you don't want to miss this, that's as much as you would have to be unserious. 

Fourth, the Final Year Week. This is the week that the finalist take the campus by storm as they celebrate rounding off their very last exam in the institution and bid it farewell. They arrange events that would make their last days in school not only interesting but also unforgettable. For students who have been serious all through their life while in school, the last days of enjoyment and extravaganza might not be a bad idea. Not a bad idea? It might be if one goes through an experience and gets a carryover. It only means one session again. 

Similarly, parties within and outside the school premises are for the bahd guys. Bahd guys, yes ‘bahd guy’. The word ‘bahd guy’ is only spelt out to explain how aggressive these persons are towards nightlife. Parties are not a child's play. Especially the parties outside the campus. These kinds of parties would have their posters flooded on the timeline of your contacts’ WhatsApp status, school billboards, and everywhere your eyes faces within the campus. 

Thrilling? Isn't it. If your CGPA is weak, you might be working towards a weaker one as you get engrossed in all of these activities. If you had a strong CGPA,  this is the season to preempt how long it can be maintained.

Conclusively, I'm not a sadist. In corroboration, there is also this popular saying about Jack and the lack of ‘play’. All I'm saying is, this semester is a cruise if you take it as a cruise.
