Dispute Between COSA President AND Social Director Settled; Vice President's Seat Declared Vacant

By Temiloluwa Adegboyegun

Friday, March 11, 2022 will always be a memorable day in the School of Communication as the ongoing dispute between the 15th Communication Student Association (COSA) President, Sanni Omolaja Shakiru (SOS) and Social Director, Ebunoluwa Noah (Neo) was finally settled by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Moshood Abiola, popularly known as M.K.O.

The President's Side of the Story

The COSA President, Sanni Omolaja Shakiru started by pointing out that the Social Director’s duty is very important, crucial and as such, should be handled diligently.

He mentioned that the Social Director didn’t do well by resuming to school two weeks after the actual date of resumption. He further added that it was wrong for her to have done that because she was meant to show exemplary traits to the rest of the students.

He said, “when something happens in the administration, the President is always summoned first. I wouldn’t want to be found wanting because I was elected to serve the students, so I’ll rather do the right thing”.

He also added that he created a committee during the social director absence which functioned well but, also praised her for seeing to the success of the Mr and Miss Fresher's day.

The Social Director Side of the Story

The 15th COSA social Director, Noah Ebunoluwa popularly known as Neo was also given a chance to explain the cause of the dispute from her own point of view.

She began by saying that the COSA constitution states that the Social Director should be in charge of all social activities but she was sidelined and someone else was doing her job.

Neo emphasized that there was no synergy during the Mr and Miss Fresher’s contest because things were done behind her back.

She divulged that she has never brought up her issue with the President elsewhere, except to the Speaker.

But controversy arose when the President, with an evidence, mentioned that the Social Director sent her budget for the Fresher’s contest by January when the programme happened on the 24th of September, 2021. In response, Neo stated, with evidence that she sent the budget on the 29th of August, 2021 and re-sent it in January.

 The Vice President Impeachment

While SOS was narrating his own side of the story, he revealed that since the commencement of his tenure as the President, the Vice President, Uka Morenikeji Oluwaseun popularly known as Queen Charming, has been underperforming.

The President's claim was proven right as she was absent from the sitting when she had been summoned by the house for the second consecutive time. The Speaker immediately stated that if the Vice President was absent from that sitting, her seat will be declared vacant, of which she failed to avail herself in the end.

 *The Final Verdict*

Having heard both sides of the story, the Speaker made his verdict, stating that there was maximum miscommunication between the parties, and since the two parties had apologized to themselves, the case has been settled.

The speaker also pleaded with the President to allow the social director to carry out her duties, and adviced Neo to ensure that she carried out those duties rightfully and diligently. Lastly, the Speaker ordered that the Vice President’s seat be left vacant with immediate effect.
