The Lagos State University School of Communication, LASUSOC has recorded another milestone achievement with the approval of six new departments, 9 fresh programmes including a name change from School of Communication to Faculty of Communication and Media Studies by the 290th Senate of the Lagos State University.

Expressing great joy and gratitude, the Dean of the School of Communications, Prof. Sunday O. Alawode made the announcement via a congratulatory statement on the school's official WhatsApp platform.

In the statement, he acknowledged the contributions of the LASU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello in achieving the feat, congratulating the Professors, Heads of Department and others stakeholders in the new faculty.

It read, "It is my pleasure to announce the approval of six (6) new Departments to house the new 9 (nine) programmes as well as name change of the School of Communication to Faculty of Communication and Media Studies by the 290th Senate of the Lagos State University. The Vice-Chancellor really played a motherly role in ensuring this approval.
Congratulations to all Professors, Heads, academic and non academic staff, and world class students of the new Faculty of Communication and Media Studies."

Also, Professor Alawode emphasized on LASUSOC's immense contribution to mass communication education in Nigeria.

"We must also place on record the role of the School as the Premier School of Communication in Nigeria with seven distinct Bachelor of Science degree programmes as far back as year 2000," it added.

Notably, the academic year for the school has been great remarkable recently, as LASUSOC graduated 3 first class students during the 25th Convocation Ceremony in March 2022. This feat broke a 7-year jinx of no first class graduate from the school.
