  The 2nd semester for the 2021/2022 session has begun and there is a rush to meet up with a lot of academic activities and tasks ahead. 

  With a short timeframe given to students as well as the lecturers regarding the conclusion of the 2021/2023 session by March 2023, it is important to know how to steer your academic ship as an individual because this will definitely tell on the results to be gotten, whether positive or negative.

1. Early Resumption: This is an important tip that must not be taken lightly. Though some faculties are yet to resume fully, regardless if you happen to belong to a faculty that has resumed, it is advisable to resume early. This is so because it gives you ample time to plan ahead for the semester, get necessary materials, and become familiar with the courses in the new session before the heat of the semester sets in. In fact, it gives you an edge over your peers.

2. Ponder and Set Smart and Realistic Goals for Yourself: Reflect on the past semester, examine choices that worked for you and which did not work you. Learn from them and decide the ones to adjust and remove completely. After that, let the outcomes of your pondering/reflection be a guide that will help set smart and realistic goals for yourself. Don't set goals that impossible or unreal. Also, attach a plans that you will follow to help realise your goals. 

3. Attend lectures, take notes, do tests and assignments: This is very important tip. For fresh students particularly, you might not know about this tip now but you are in luck so let it be an habit for you to never miss a lecture (even if the lecturer doesn't show up) , take notes, write tests and not just do assignments but also submit them as and when due. All these, are what will form your Continuous Assessment (C.A) Score at the end of the semester. Buy materials, attend tutorials too. A good tip to know is some lecturers will fail students for having no C.A, so don't be a victim of this.

4. Create and Maintain Positive Academic Relationships: Relationships that are majorly based on yout studies not the lovey-dovey type. Building and maintaining positive academic relationships will help you a lot in having a productive semester. Aside from your studies, relationships like this will expose you to opportunities to learn digital skills, share ideas, improve your spiritual life, achieve your personal dreams and aspiration among others. Relationships like this are a full package, try to find the right ones and maintain it. It is not easy but take your time. 

5. Be Disciplined and Committed: This is a personal virtue that goes beyond being a student and it will help you to achieve a productive semester. As it was mentioned earlier in tip number 2, setting goals, devising a plan is easy but when you are disciplined and committed, you would achieve your aims. This tip helps you to stick with your plans in the midst of numerous distractions. So, try to be disciplined and committed. The best way to do this is by start with small goals and plans, when you sail through this, then you are sure that you can move to the next.

6.Time Management: Another important tip is managing time which almost every student has a problem with especially during the season of writing exams. Anybody that can manage time well will always be productive whether as a student or businessman, in any field. Time waits for no one, so it important to manage the time you have especially now that the academic calendar of LASU is short. Time Management is key. Know your priorities and stick to them. 7. The place of God: This is not about religion or anything. It is about the truth. The spiritual and physical work together, hence the God-factor. Putting God first as a student is a good trait and it will help you to be productive.
