LASU VC Bags 2022 African Hero Of The Year Award

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello mni. has been  awarded the 2022 African Hero Award by an international youth body called The African Youth Assembly on Monday, 7th of November, 2022. 


Leading a 4-man delegation of African Youth Assembly to the VC's office at the Senate Building (Ojo Campus), Speaker of the body, Rt. Honourable Matthew Naankin Green presented the award to Prof. Olatunji-Bello.


Presenting the award, Rt. Hon. Matthew Naankin Green showered praises on the VC as he referred to her as an exemplar of excellence, a symbol of African hope, passion and productivity. 



According to him, the reason why the LASU VC merited the award was because of her immense contributions towards the advancement of humanity, commitment towards the African Project, professional merit, youth and women empowerment, economic contributions, institutional strengthening, mental capacity and other great things. 


Rt. Hon. Green, while encouraging the VC to remain focused, formally invited her to the African Hero Award ceremony, scheduled to hold in Namibia, on an unannounced date. 


Expression her delight towards the honour shown to her by the Assembly, Professor Olatunji-Bello dedicated the award to all students of Lagos State University, whom she called heroes.

In addition, she promised to support the African Youth Humanitarian Project of the Body, noting that "the future of any nation is the youth, and when we destroy them, we destroy our future."


Notably, the African Youth Assembly is the confluence of African Youth and its aim is to advance the African project through the instrumentality of the legislative gathering across all 54 countries of the continent. 


Also, it focused on integrating the african youths towards developmental initiatives and provide a platform for youth development.
