The year 2022 academic session has once again proven to be great as the Lagos State University has emerged the Best University in both Nigeria and the West Africa sub-region in the newly released 2022 UI GreenMetrics global Ranking.
This ranking, which rated 1050 universities globally on green climate metric, also rated LASU as number 799 worldwide and the 15th best overall in Africa behind 14 Universities from Egypt.
Experiencing her delight at information, which was made known via a press statement released by the Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations (CIPPR) on Sunday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello congratulated the entire LASU community and appreciated the Lagos State Government led by Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu for supporting her administration to succeed.
Giving her assurance to the entire university of continuous progress, the VC stated that the university would not relent in putting the right policies, strategies and infrastructures in place for LASU to become the best in the sub-region in all other ranking indices.
Notably, the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is a ranking on green campus and environmental sustainability initiated by Universitas Indonesia in 2010.
Also, through 39 indicators in 6 criteria namely, Setting and Infrastructure (SI), Energy and Climate Change (EC), Waste (WS), Water (WR), Transportation (TR), and Education (ED), the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings strictly determined the rankings by universities’ environmental commitment and initiatives.
Worthy of note is that, this will be the first time that LASU would be participating in the ranking, in which she emerged the best in the West Africa sub-region.
Notably, this new feat is an attestation to the vow Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello made during an event that marked her 1st year anniversary as the second female and 9th substantive Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University in September 2022.
According to her at the time, she said, "Prior to my appointment in September, 2021, as the vice chancellor of Lagos State University, I had already determined in my mind to make the institution the best in West Africa and as you can see, we are in the right track."
"We have achieved some feats, but we are still getting there. We need more of your dogged and unflinching support. I want to bequeath to my successor enduring legacies that everyone will be proud at the end of my tenure in office," she added.
