Update: LASU Management says Fire Outbreak Was Minimal, No Casualties

​Following the fire incident that occurred on the 4th floor of the LASU Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building on Friday afternoon, 9th of December, 2022, the management of the Lagos State University has said the situation was a mild and manageable one, as peace has been restored to scene of the incident and no casualties were recorded.

This new development was contained in a statement released and signed by the Coordinator of the Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, LASU, Mr Fashola Aderemi on Saturday.

It can be recalled that ACJ-LASU reported that at the time of fire outbreak, the cause of the fire incident could not be determined as efforts to get credible information was to no avail, but the Lagos State Fire Services was available to put out the fire. 

According to the official statement, which debunked contrary claims across some dailies and online newspapers, the cause of the fire outbreak was explained.

The statement read partly, "The Lagos State University Authority wishes to confirm that there was a mild fire incident on the 4th floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building on Friday, 9th December 2022 and also wishes to affrim, that contrary to what has been circulating in some dailies and online platforms, the consequence of the incident was minimal and manageable."

"The fire incident that lasted for about few minutes started from the inverter room beside Directorate of Internal Audit, Property Management Unit and, ONLY affected a few offices of the Internal Audit at the Directorate of the Internal Audit  wing at the Senate Building."

"However, men of the Lagos State fire service, at the prompt of the University Management were present to nip further spread of the fire in the bud and avoided further spread beyond the floor."

Appreciating the immediate response of relevant agencies in the state towards the incident, the management stated, "The University Authority appreciates the immediate response and efforts of the men of the Lagos State fire fighter, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other officials of the Lagos State Government; and similarly appreciates the understanding and support of the members of staff (Teaching & Non - Teaching) and students of the University."
