LASU Conscience Presents 'EVOLVE': Uniting Media, Tech, and Climate Change for a Sustainable Future

LASU Conscience, an esteemed journalism organization at Lagos State University, hosted a captivating media event titled "EVOLVE" on September 21st, 2023. This event aimed to shed light on the profound interplay between media, technology, and the pressing issue of climate change. 



The event which was emceed by Eniola Ogunbiyi, host of Eniola's TV began on a pleasant note. Samuel Olomu, Chairperson of LASU Conscience, delivered an engaging welcome address, setting the stage for an informative and thought-provoking series of sessions.


The first session, led by Olumude Idowu, Co-Founder of the International Climate Change Development Institute, explored climate change, particularly in the context of Lagos State University. He urged the audience to expand their perspective beyond mere contemplation of climate change and instead consider the overall state of our environment. His impactful message resonated deeply with the attendees, highlighting the crucial role individuals play in fostering sustainability.


Following Idowu's session, David Adefunmilayo, Founder of Efico, shed light on the critical threats posed by climate change. He encouraged the audience to recognize the long-term opportunities embedded within combating climate change, emphasizing that the world's most significant challenges also serve as avenues for growth and innovation.


Kolapo Olapoju, Editor-in-Chief of The Cable newspaper, skillfully led the third session, emphasizing essential attributes for students: effective communication, unwavering passion, and dedicated commitment. He also emphasized the idea of  leveraging opportunities in the climate technology, "The best way to succeed in life is to be your own biggest critic."


The event featured speeches from notable figures like Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as "Saka, esteemed journalist and lecturer, Tunde Akanni, the influential couple, Omatara and Alabi Lawrence, and Femi Adegolu, Chairman of BCHAIN Academy.



A thrilling highlight of the evening was Femi Adegolu's announcement of nine scholarship slots for deserving Lagos State University students, providing valuable educational opportunities.


Generous sponsorship from Nutzy peanut butter and hostel.ng demonstrated their commitment to sustainable initiatives. The entertainment segment, skillfully handled by Temiloluwa Bolawole, widely recognized as "ThatPoet," and the exceptionally talented saxophonist Timisax, added a delightful touch to the event.
