During a media chat organized by the Lagos State University (LASU) Management, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello, mni, announced an opportunity for students to earn extra income while studying. The media chat, held earlier today at the Vice Chancellor's conference room in the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate building, aimed to engage students through student journalists and influencers, and inform them about achievements and improvements in the university.
One of the media influencers raised a question about financial difficulties faced by many students, including challenges in paying school fees and other expenses. The media practitioner, who was an alumnus of the university, mentioned that the work-study initiative had helped to alleviate financial burdens during their time as a student.
In response to this concern, the Vice Chancellor revealed that the work-study initiative had been in place since the 6th substantive Vice Chancellor's tenure, Dr. Abdul Lateef Hussein's tenure and continued during her own tenure. "We have volunteer students working in the ICT, international Academic engagement, LASU bakery, health center and they get stipends in return", she stated
Earlier in her welcome address, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the university's commitment to the welfare of students. Over the past two years, she made known that the university management has implemented policies and taken actions to prioritize student well-being. Therefore, as a responsive and attentive management, they have decided to address student questions and gather direct feedback to make more informed decisions on matters that affect them.
By implementing the work-study initiative and engaging with students through media chats, LASU aims to enhance the educational experience and help students reach their full potential.
