The Faculty of Education polling unit experienced significant disruptions in the electoral process, leaving voters in distress. As of 1pm, the election had not yet begun, raising concerns among the students.
Hamzat, a concerned student from the faculty, voiced apprehension about the situation, citing signs of electoral malpractices, harassment, and the delay in the process. He said, " We have not been able to vote in our faculty due to network issues and they've been on it since 10am. The school Marshal also harassed our president. We saw him and the officer exchanging words and the next thing we saw was seeing Socrates ( the faculty president) in the marshal's car. He was arrested for speaking for us and that's why we are here at the SIEU to demand his release".
Favour, another student, joined the chorus of discontent, lamenting the absence of a free and fair election process and pointing out instances of manipulation. She revealed, "We came out in masses to vote and we haven't been allowed to exercise our rights. There have been a lot of Malpractices. Only 45 people have been able to get a token to vote and out of them, some people have complained that the token given is fake. This prompted the president to question the electoral officials but he was arrested and harassed by the Marshals. They started beating him and even tore his clothes. That's why we are at SID you demand his release but so far, the faculty of education haven't been able to vote".
The delay in the electoral process led some voters to suspect foul play, and a fraction of them expressed their reluctance to vote, although some eventually cast their ballots.
