Voting had not commenced at the Faculty of Education as of 1 p.m. Fearing disenfranchisement, students from the faculty, led by their president, Socrates, marched to the Faculty of Social Sciences, where voting had also not yet begun. As the crowd swelled and tempers flared, men of the school's security unit swooped in and took Socrates away after a feeble attempt at resistance by him and the students around him.
Faculty of Social Sciences
Voting at the Faculty of Social Sciences did not commence until 1:30 p.m., due to the late arrival of the IEC chairman, Mubarak. Students were furious at the delay, and some manhandled Mubarak when he finally arrived. They accused him of foul play, and demanded that he "do the needful."
The Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko, arrived later and assured the students that they would all be able to vote. He added that an extra five hours would be added to the voting period to make up for the delay.
Faculty of Management Sciences
Voting at the Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS) commenced around 12 p.m. The process was largely smooth until students from FSS stormed FMS to demand that voting be stopped because FSS had not yet begun voting. The students from FSS were prevented from entering FMS, after which they returned to their own faculty.
