LASUSU Election Declared Inconclusive

By Abdulsemiu Monsuroh

The 34th LASUSU Independent Electoral Committee (TEAM PELLUCID) has declared the 2023/2024 LASUSU election inconclusive due to irregularities in the electronic voting system.

In a press statement released on November 1, 2023, the IEC Chairman, Adegbola Mubarak, stated that there were discrepancies between the number of manually accredited voters and the electronic accreditation results. He also noted that the committee had lost confidence in the e-voting system.

The IEC is therefore requesting permission from the university management to conduct a fresh election through an open-secret ballot.

The election, which was held on November 1, 2023, was initially declared successful, with the following results:

* President: 9,697

* Vice President (OJO): 7,419

* Vice President (EPE): 720

* Vice President (Ikeja): 440

* General Secretary: To be filled

* Assistant General Secretary (OJO): 2,799

* Assistant General Secretary (EPE): 683

* Assistant General Secretary (Ikeja): 406

* Welfare (OJO): 4,869

* Welfare (EPE): Unopposed

* Welfare (Ikeja): Unopposed

* Financial Secretary: 3,687

* Treasurer: Unopposed

* Social Director: 6,523

* Sports Director: Unopposed

* Public Relations Officer (PRO): 8,004

* Legal Director: 3,494

However, following the discovery of the irregularities, the IEC has decided to declare the election inconclusive and conduct a fresh election.

The new date for an open-secret-ballot election is expected to be announced by the university management in due course.
