SPC Suspends Ibiade, Forgives Tobun, Despite Committing Similar, Weightier Offence.

The Students' Representative Council led by  Rt. Hon Hassan Haleemah Abimbola has indefinitely suspended Comrade Benjamin Ibiade from his position as the LASUSU PRO. 

This happened on the 23rd of February, 2024, at the Hallowed Chamber wing of the Students' Arcade following allegations of misappropriation of funds, lack of accountability, and gross disregard for the Hallowed Chamber. 

However, LASUSU president, Comrade Haroun Tobun Dolapo, escaped suspension despite committing much similar offenses. 

According to an anonymous source, during the emergency gathering yesterday, Ibiade, Tobun, and other members of the Executives-in-council were summoned to the house to defend themselves over their respective allegations. Our source said; "Ibiade, after due investigation, was found to have collected and pegged the price for permission to place banners on the campus at #1000 without due remittance to and permission from the relevant bodies. Upon questioning, he revealed that Tobun gave him the go-ahead. Tobun denied permitting him. Ibiade was also accused of disrespecting the office of the vice president"

"Tobun on the other hand collected #300,000 for "activation" and remitted nothing to the SPC, SJC, and other relevant bodies," another anonymous source said. "He also received money for the Bus Shuttle and did not remit to the necessary authorities, and when asked, he said he paid some of this money for the treatment of Comrade Ali," the source continued.

When asked how Tobun escaped suspension despite weightier offences, our first source said, " The motion for the suspension of Ibiade was already moved and passed. However, immediately after Ibiade was suspended, the acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan alongside Dr. Ibikunle Ganiyu (G. White) stepped in and pleaded with the house to be lenient with their judgment and consider the peace and sanity of the school."

The house went on to forgive Tobun, the Sports director and finance officer. According to the broadcast shared by the House Committee on Information and Strategy, "they are ordered to tender a public apology to the house, and the student populace, an apology letter to the Vice President and a two-week community service, to be supervised by the president of the union" Comrade Ibiade is still expected to join in this Sanction despite his suspension. Secretary of the publicity committee, comrade Asikoto resumes as Chairman of the publicity committee.

Also, the SPC unanimously suspended the  Chairman of the Transport Committee, Comrade Emmanuel Uroh, and the secretary Comrade Ogabi Gabriel indefinitely.
