The Lagos State University community witnessed a remarkable event as the Association of Campus Journalist, LASU chapter in collaboration with the African Foundation for Young Media Professionals (AFYMP), organized a free training session for budding campus reporters.
The event, held at the esteemed Faculty of Communications and Media Studies, garnered a significant turnout, with over 40 participants eager to enhance their journalistic skills and knowledge. Under the guidance of a seasoned professional, Yinka Olaito, the attendees explored into various aspects of journalism, ranging from news writing techniques to ethical reporting practices.
Yinka Olaito, the esteemed founder of AFYMP, anchored two insightful sessions, sharing invaluable expertise and experiences with the eager participants. His guidance provided an understanding of the evolving landscape of media and journalism, empowering the attendees to navigate the challenges and opportunities within the field.
He stated in his presentation that “as a campus journalist or a professional journalist, it’s better to tell a story than be the story”, emphasizing that no story is worth one’s life.
Throughout the training, interactive discussions and Q and A sessions allowed participants to apply newfound knowledge and refine their journalistic prowess. The collaborative effort between ACJ LASU and AFYMP underscored a commitment to nurturing the next generation of journalists, equipping them with the skills necessary to excel in their endeavors.
Reflecting on the success of the event, the Chief Editor of ACJ LASU, Daniel Nworie expressed his gratitude to all participants and AFYMP emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and collaboration within the journalism community.
As the participants depart with newfound insights and knowledge, the legacy of this collaborative effort promises to resonate within campus journalism as this marks the first training organized in three years.
