LASUSU Elections: Two aspirants Disqualified, 24 Candidates Qualified to Vie For LASUSU Positions

Anunobi Ogechukwu Gift, and Oliaku Deborah Ese have been deemed not qualified to vie for the office of LASUSU Assistant General Secretary due to their low CGPAs. This was disclosed in the early hours of Tuesday, 30th of July, 2024 by the 35th LASUSU Independent Electoral Comittee. 

This development is coming barely a few hours after all twenty-six Ojo Campus candidates presented their manifestos on Monday, July 29 2024, at the student arcade, after their screening days earlier. The event which was hosted by the LASUSU IEC, the integritas team, sought to introduce the candidates to the student populace and have the students listen to their vision and mission for the next academic session. While twenty-four were deemed qualified, the two aspirants for the position of Assistant General Secretary were disqualified, as they had lower than the 3.0 CGPA required by the electoral act to contest for that position.

Firstly, for the position of President, all six aspirants namely; Abass Seriki Muheez, Olajide Ololade Oladele, Idowu-Ola Precious Ifedunsin, Taiwo Habeeb Olasunkanmi, Adebobola Ayomide, and Olalere Yusuf, were deemed qualified and eligible to run for the office by the IEC. 

For the office of Vice president (Ojo campus), the two aspirants namely; Abisuga Christiana Moyosoluwa and Ramon Rihanat Oluwabukola were also qualified. For the office of the General Secretary, all four aspirants namely; Adekunle Dhulkifi Adedayo, Jonathan Adewale Setonji, Akadri Emmanuel Seodo, and Oluyepe Adetayo Sunday were qualified to run for the office. 

Also, Makanjuola Kehinde Habeeb, Balogun Abdulrazaq Olawale, Adebayo Korede Peter and Martins Tobiloba Patrick were deemed to qualified to run for the office of the Welfare Director of the Union. For the office of Treasurer, Adisa Ibraheem Olamilekan, Akinbusuyi Stephen Imoleayo, Oyeleke Emmanuel Ademola were qualified to run  for the office. For the office of Social Director, Adegoke Olamilekan Oladapo and Oluwole Boluwatife Samuel were qualifed by the IEC. 

Idowu Akintoye Oluwatimilehin, Alimi Toheeb Omotayo, Asikoto Olamide Mauyon, were qualified to run unopposed for the offices of Sports Director, Legal Director and Public Relations officer, respectively. The IEC chairman, Salami Mubarak Oriyomi, urged the student populace to vote for candidates based on eligibility and not on favoritism in the coming election as their choice will be the leaders in the upcoming session.

The election is scheduled to hold on Thursday, 1st of August, 2024, after a presidential and vice-presidential debate on the 31st of July, 2024.
