Faculty of Communication Breaks Record at LASU Debate Society Word War 8

For the second time in the history of the Lagos State University Debate Society’s (LSUDS) public speaking competition, Word War, the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies has emerged victorious, making them the first faculty to win Word War twice. 

Their historic triumph came during the Word War 8 grand finale tagged , "Siege", held on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, at the Hallowed Chambers, Student Arcade, Lagos State University.

The grand finale featured top contestants from the Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of Law, and students from Epe Campus, with each faculty represented by two debaters. 

The event also included an in-house debate and oratory competition for LSUDS members, where Moyomade Adegbite won the intra-LSUDS debate, and Chief Orator Gift claimed victory in the orators’ contest.

After intense rounds of argumentation and eloquence, the final rankings were announced: the Faculty of Management Sciences finished 4th, the Faculty of Law took 3rd place, Epe Campus contestants came 2nd, and the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies claimed the top spot.

The competition also recognized outstanding contributions from judges, presenting them with the Award of Excellence for their dedication and service. 

Among the speakers, Sewedo Agosu, Miracle Peter, Onafusi Oluwafikunayomi Esther, and Mercy O. Obanor were acknowledged as the four best speakers of Word War 8.

At the center of the historic win was Miracle Peter from the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, who was crowned Word Lord of Word War 8. 

In an interview with ACJ LASU, Miracle said: “Winning wouldn’t have been possible without God’s grace, as well as the support of my faculty coordinator, Adeshimisola, Mofiyinfoluwa, Boluwatife, and my wonderful partner, Sewedo.”
With this victory, the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies has set a new benchmark in LSUDS history, solidifying its reputation as a custodian in public speaking and debate.
