By Elsie Udoh The Lagos State University Student Union (LASUSU) Executive members have announced a promised extension of the course registration portal and reopening of the school fee portal. This was stated in an official bulletin from the Public Relations Officer, Comrade. Ibiade Benjamin which was made available to members of the varsity's public on February 29th, 2024. The release sought to proffer hope to students yet to pay their fees and register for courses before the stipulated deadline set by the school. While no particular date was mentioned in the bulletin, it stated in part, "We understand the economic situation... We will ensure that our world-class students access the portal and pay their tuition fees." See official bulletin below

​ By Ashiah Sanusi The Lagos State University (LASU) matriculated a total of 12,873 students on Wednesday, 28th February, 2024 at the Buba Marwa Auditorium. The matriculating students, adorned in their academic regalia were filled with excitement as they pledged their commitment to academic excellence, integrity, and the pursuit of knowledge.  Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello commended the students for their dedication and hard work in securing admission into the prestigious institution. She reiterated LASU's dedication to providing a conducive environment for learning and personal development, urging the new students to seize every opportunity for growth and success. The ceremony was attended by faculty members, dignitaries, proud parents, family members, and well-wishers, making it a memorable occasion for all.

​ By Daniel Nworie The Students' Parliamentary Council has reinstated the suspended Lagos State University Students' Union PRO, Comrade Benjamin Ibiade. This was announced via a document by the SPC's in-house committee on Information and Strategy on Wednesday, 28th of February, 2024. According to the document, " Having fulfilled all stipulated conditions as requested by the Parliament, the 34th LASUSU SPC hereby reinstates Comr. Ibiade Benjamin Kayode as the 34th LASUSU PRO" Recall that the LASUSU SPC suspended Ibiade five days ago over allegations of misappropriation of funds, and extortion while exonerating the union president, Comrade Tobun Dolapo despite similar allegations. However, Ibiade has now served his suspension and has been reinstated by the SPC.

​ The Students' Representative Council led by  Rt. Hon Hassan Haleemah Abimbola has indefinitely suspended Comrade Benjamin Ibiade from his position as the LASUSU PRO.  This happened on the 23rd of February, 2024, at the Hallowed Chamber wing of the Students' Arcade following allegations of misappropriation of funds, lack of accountability, and gross disregard for the Hallowed Chamber.  However, LASUSU president, Comrade Haroun Tobun Dolapo, escaped suspension despite committing much similar offenses.  According to an anonymous source, during the emergency gathering yesterday, Ibiade, Tobun, and other members of the Executives-in-council were summoned to the house to defend themselves over their respective allegations. Our source said; "Ibiade, after due investigation, was found to have collected and pegged the price for permission to place banners on the campus at #1000 without due remittance to and permission from the relevant bodies. ​ Omolade Ewaoluwa The Senate at Lagos State University (LASU) has officially banned all final year sign-out parties and funfairs following their 306th statutory meeting held on Thursday, January 25th, 2024.  According to the report presented by the Acting Dean of Students Affairs, the Senate expressed concerns over the disregard for rules and improper conduct observed during recent signing-out festivities. Issues noted included students inviting non-university guests, open consumption of alcohol and smoking on campus, indecent dressing, loud music, traffic congestion from improper parking, and littering across university grounds.  The Senate condemned these actions as unacceptable and agreed to strict new rules for any final year sign-out events moving forward. ​ LASU Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre Set to Launch Officially  Akeredolu Israel Omolade Ewaoluwa  The Lagos State University (LASU) Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre will officially launch on Monday, February 5th, 2024, the society announced at a press conference on Friday.  The ADR Society, established in conjunction with the Student Judicial Council (SJC) last year, aims to provide a more confidential and flexible conflict resolution process for LASU students.   According to ADR Society President and ADR Centre Chairperson Fathia Adetola, the centre will offer students a favorable alternative for settling disputes across LASU's campuses, while protecting the involved parties' interests. Deputy Vice President Fatimah Lasisi said the ADR process circumvents SJC procedures, making it more time efficient and cost-effective. ​ Akeredolu Israel In its 305th statutory meeting on Thursday, 28th December 2023, the Lagos State University Senate reviewed and approved the Academic Calendar for the upcoming 2023/2024 Academic Session. The first semester is set to commence from the 15th to the 26th of January 2024, allowing for a two-week registration period for both fresh and returning students. Lectures for all students, whether fresh or returning, will begin on the 22nd of January and continue until the 29th of March 2024, covering a 10-week span. Late registration is permitted from the 11th to the 22nd of March 2024, incurring a penalty of ₦5000. Examinations for the first semester are scheduled from the 1st to the 19th of April 2024, spanning three weeks. Subsequently, grading and uploading of results will transpire from Monday, 22nd April, to Friday, 3rd May 2024.
