Dusk set on the tenure of the 29th Lagos State University Student Union (LASUSU) administration, it was seen off with applauds as it paved way for the dawn of a new era. The 30th LASUSU administration (Executive and Legislature) led by Comrade Ashade Abdulbasit (OBS) and The RT. HON. Aromire Abdulquyum respectively was sworn in on Monday 13th of January, 2020 in the presence of students, the school management led by Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun SAN PhD and well wishers after series of campaign strategies. The Lagos state University academic calendar is out and it has derive a lot of discussions and comments among students. According to some of the students they feel comfortable and relax with the academic calendar but they appeal to the management that the calender should be actualised. Some weeks after the academic calendar was out, students were urging the Lagos State University (LASU) Management to abide by this calendar so as not to cause an extension in the program of students. Four years course should not be allowed to extend over four years. The past academic calendar which was for 2017/2018 academic session was riddled with strikes. Which made the school to be closed for months after prolong negotiations between the government and the Academic staff union of universities (ASUU). This had affected the academic calendar which was expected to end in 2019 but instead it was extend to 2020. Two Lagos State University students have been selected for the yearly MAMMAN Daria scholarship award, both from the School of Communication and concurrently belong to the Association of Campus Journalist (LASU Chapter). The Mamman Daria scholarship is meant to support female students in journalism. It was instituted in 2017 to celebrate a man, who against the grain of his time educated his daughters; giving them an advantage that sets them apart from their peers. Many have benefited from the scholarship since it's inception from various institutions and recently it was recorded that two of the Lagos State University students and also members of the aforementioned association have benefited in 2020 . Tens of Lagos State University(LASU) students fainted and were injured in a stampede as a result of a scramble to write General Nigerian Studies (GNS 102) examination at LASU CBT Centre, LASU, Ojo Campus On January 9th, 2020. The examination of about Four thousand 100 level students was fixed on one day in just two batches at the newly built LASU CBT centre. Surprisingly, the two batches have the same time, 8am to 1pm. It should be noted that last year's GNS 102 examination was conducted in Four CBT Centres across the university, namely: Zenith CBT Cente, Law Library CBT Centre, Central Language lab(CLL) CVT Centre and University Library CBT centre, and it can not be said that it was hitch-free as there was a Stampede at CLL. Students are seen struggling to enter the gate of the CBT centre so that they will not miss the exam. A world class institution like the Lagos state university would be expected to have a clinic or an health centre befitting it's grandiose name but sadly reverse is the case as there are some disturbing practices and a few disappointing inadequacies. The Lagos state university's health centre shares almost the same methods as most public hospital and most times their detestable features are equal even a few of which I'd state below. The same way many public hospitals have a reputation for delaying patients the exact same can be said about LASU's clinic. Although public hospitals have an almost legitimate excuse to delay the hundreds of patients trooping in by their numbers but what excuse does LASU's health centre have? On personal visit to the health centre at specific timing I observed that on average at the least 10 people visit the records division of the health centre and 20 at most. The student union election which was conducted and concluded today appeared to be generate different views from different categories of both participant and observers. The voting was purely electronic, students were completely impressed. Some even dared to say LASU is one step ahead of Nigeria as a whole, simply because Nigeria hasn't ventured into complete E-voting. Perhaps they were right?. The E-voting platform was indeed a development and a big step forward into a new age of technological advancement for the school electoral processes. There is political apathy in this situation, every ordinary man do not want to interlock with things of politics, but there is politics everywhere, politics in the church, school, mosque, organisations and every setting of gathering as someone must leas and people must follow. There is always fault when a leader does not know his stand, does not understand the term "Leadership and sacrifice", can not define his agenda, cannot give boundaries to some open lapses, leaders are meant to sacrifice, are meant to meet their followers demand, are meant to fulfill every promise made.
