April 29, 2020 Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire has stated that the use of herbs to treat the deadly novel COVID-19 virus is not discouraged. During the daily Presidential taskforce briefing on COVID-19 on Tuesday, Ehanire, while responding to a question on the use of herbal remedies for the treatment/prevention of the Coronavirus, said that so far the herbs don’t cause ‘harm’, Nigerians can use it. The president in his nationwide broadcast said that the decision was informed by the socio-economic impacts of the lockdown on Nigerians. He however made it known that the relaxation wouldn't take effect until 4th of May, 2020 with some set of guidelines such as the 8pm to 6am curfew amongst other measures which must be strictly adhered to. After the number of the COVID-19 cases increased in Nigeria, the Federal Government gave a public announcement that parts of the country should be on Lockdown, especially Lagos where most of the cases have been recorded. Undoubtedly the COVID-19 pandemic has indeed caused a lot of hardship on the lives of Nigerians, especially residents of Lagos, Ogun, and FCT, bringing to their doorstep unplanned expenses and stagnation of business activities. This is unquestionably a sacrifice that has to be made to at least be amongst the living, and to ultimately flatten the curve.
