I will begin this letter with a rundown of how Mondays look like for me.  Now, every Monday, two things are true about me, one is that I have hectic classes and two, I always wake up tired. The classes usually require me to be mentally stable and physically strong because I have to engage in back-to-back trekking under the LASU sun.  What can I do? The degree must be bagged. The year 2022 academic session has once again proven to be great as the Lagos State University has emerged the Best University in both Nigeria and the West Africa sub-region in the newly released 2022 UI GreenMetrics global Ranking.  This ranking, which rated 1050 universities globally on green climate metric, also rated LASU as number 799 worldwide and the 15th best overall in Africa behind 14 Universities from Egypt.  Experiencing her delight at information, which was made known via a press statement released by the Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations (CIPPR) on Sunday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello congratulated the entire LASU community and appreciated the Lagos State Government led by Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu for supporting her administration to succeed. By Damilare Adeleye   The management of Lagos State University, LASU has released procedural steps for students intending to occupy the newly-opened female hostel located at the institution's Main  Campus, Ojo.  The university management which pegged the fee for the hostel at the sum of fifty thousand naira [N50,000], directed prospective students to visit the Students' Affairs Division for the initial consultation. As contained in a statement released on Thursday night by the university's Information Centre, students, who have made payment are charged to proceed to the Bursary Office at Block Two (2) for the issuance of receipt. By Similoluwa Ifedayo  On Thursday, December 15, 2022, the Asiwaju Grassroots Talk (AGT) Directorate Of Student Affairs had its combined Evangelical Seminar (LASU and LASUED), themed "Reawakening the political consciousness of students of tertiary institutions, and their indispensable participation in politics and governance" at Buba Marwa Main Auditorium, Lasu Ojo.  However, I could say that the event did more of awakening the deep hunger and anger of LASUites than the political consciousness. A few days before the seminar, LASU students were asked to join different groups and add their names to the list of attendees for the AGT. ACJ-LASU  A team of two researchers including a Ph.D. student of Project Management identified as Micheal Fagbohun, has won a five million naira (N5,000,000) research grant from the Lagos State Science, Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC). The trio, who won the grant for their research proposal on "The Development and Production of Bio-Plastic from Sargassum Seaweed towards Circular Economy in Nigeria," were led by Blessing Nwatulegwu and supervised by a Professor of Project Management, Prof. Ibrahim Olateju. By Similoluwa Ifedayo  Michael Eziamaka, a 300 level student of the Lagos State University Department of Computer Science has won the 2022 Fintech Summit Hackathon with a cash prize of 5,000 dollars. This information was made known via a post shared on the official Facebook page of Lagos State University on Wednesday, December 14.  According to the information gathered by ACJ-LASU, Michael was formerly a musician before he ventured into tech for better opportunities. Though his first hackathon didn't turn out the way he expected, he kept trying.  In his words, "I didn't let that stop me, I kept working hard and found success on my following attempts". ​ Following the fire incident that occurred on the 4th floor of the LASU Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building on Friday afternoon, 9th of December, 2022, the management of the Lagos State University has said the situation was a mild and manageable one, as peace has been restored to scene of the incident and no casualties were recorded. This new development was contained in a statement released and signed by the Coordinator of the Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, LASU, Mr Fashola Aderemi on Saturday. It can be recalled that ACJ-LASU reported that at the time of fire outbreak, the cause of the fire incident could not be determined as efforts to get credible information was to no avail, but the Lagos State Fire Services was available to put out the fire.  According to the official statement, which debunked contrary claims across some dailies and online newspapers, the cause of the fire outbreak was explained.   The 4th floor of the Raji Fashola Senate Building, according to reports reaching ACJ-LASU has caught fire as staffs were seen rushing out of the 5-storey building on Friday afternoon.    ACJ-LASU correspondent who was on ground shortly after the incident occurred gathered that the cause of the fire could not be determined but the fire service were available to put out the fire.   Efforts to get concrete information from solid sources were futile as no one was willing to speak with ACJ-LASU.  More updates shortly....

This year's competition had its semi-finals on Monday, 5th December 2022, and the grand-finale on Tuesday, 6th December 2022, featuring 10 universities out of 9 participated in the debate round and 4 moved on to the final round having scaled through rigorous stages of research, drafting, writing, editing, internalizing and speaking. As a matter of fact, the presence of seasoned judges/panelists at the event cannot be overlooked. It was, undoubtedly an event to remember for the best. ​ Ajayi Samiat The University of Ibadan has been declared winners of the 5th Edition of the LASUSU 2022 Intervarsity Debate Competition (LIVDC) while the hosts, Lagos State University (LASU) as well as Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. U.I emerged the best participants at the competition as they outclassed opposition schools in every category and also produced the best speaker at the event which held at the Buba Marwa Main Auditorium, Ọjọ campus on Tuesday, December 6. By Ajayi Samiat  The Lagos State University (LASU), along with 3 other universities has qualified for the final stage of the 5th edition of the Lagos State University Students' Union (LASUSU) 2022 Inter-varsity Debate Competition (LIVDC) which held on Monday, December 5 at the Students' Arcade Hallowed Chambers, Ọjọ campus. Out of 10 universities that were invited for the competition, 9 participated in the debate round while 7 participated in the speech round of the semi-finals.
